At The Edwards Design Studio, our core philosophy centres around addressing environmental, social, and economic challenges through the pursuit of design excellence. We are dedicated to aligning our clients’ aspirations with environmentally responsible designs that minimize their ecological footprint, maximize social benefits, and ensure financial sustainability.
Our mission as designers is to assist our clients in achieving their sustainability objectives while fostering a deeper connection to the environment. Simultaneously, we aim to create workplaces that are both functional and harmonious. We take pride in harmonizing exceptional design with global environmental principles, firmly rooted in our commitment to sustainability.
Here are the fundamental principles that guide our work:
Waste Reduction: We promote responsible waste management through the use of central waste stations, encouraging recycling and waste separation to minimize landfill contributions.
Local Sourcing: Whenever feasible, we prioritize locally sourced furniture to reduce transportation emissions and bolster the local economy.
Indoor Air Quality: Our designs incorporate low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) finishes and biophilic elements to enhance the indoor environment, promoting better air quality and employee well-being.
Natural Light: We maximize natural light in all suitable areas, creating brighter and more pleasant spaces.
Acoustic Comfort: Our designs prioritize acoustic considerations, ensuring privacy and providing a conducive atmosphere for collaboration.
Active Design: We encourage physical activity and healthier behaviours through thoughtful design.
Cultural Connection: Our creative and culturally relevant design elements establish a strong connection to the local environment, fostering a sense of belonging.
Global Perspective: We consistently aim to be at the forefront of design innovation, incorporating the latest global trends and sustainable practices into our work.
Implementation: In the daily operation of our design studio we implement simple strategies to achieve our targets.
We consistently specify sustainable products and avoid the use of non-sustainable resources, and prioritize products and materials with lower environmental impacts over those with significant ecological footprints.
We actively engage with building services engineers, waste management consultants and like minded suppliers, to reduce energy and resource consumption and employ passive design principles.
On a recent project, we proposed to a client a strategy to recycle corporate uniforms and using these to manufacture composite boards to be used as part of the project joinery.
On a smaller scale, we have taken measures to minimize our environmental footprint. This includes recycling and reusing presentation materials, by employing trays with samples affixed using removable/reusable adhesive pads.
Slavery represents a grave violation of human rights and is deemed a criminal offense. Modern slavery include various forms, including slavery, servitude, forced and compulsory labor, forced marriage, debt bondage, and human trafficking. Regardless of whether it involves adults or children, these forms of exploitation share a common thread: the deprivation of an individual’s freedom by another for personal or commercial gain.
The Edwards Design Studio is firmly committed to upholding ethical standards and conducting business with integrity in all our professional relationships. We recognize the importance of taking proactive measures to combat modern slavery and thoroughly assess the associated risks within our operations. We are steadfast in our resolve to establish and maintain effective controls that prevent the occurrence of modern slavery within our own organization.
As a commercial design consultancy serving a diverse range of corporate clients, The Edwards Design Studio operates with a small team, currently comprising fewer than 10 employees and contract designers engaged on a project-by-project basis.
This statement articulates our commitment to the following principles:
a) Responsible Sourcing: We are dedicated to responsibly sourcing goods and services.
b) Transparency: We are committed to ensuring transparency in our approach to addressing modern slavery within our business.
c) Prevention and Mitigation: We actively take measures to prevent and mitigate the harm associated with modern slavery in our operations.
d) Compliance: We adhere to Australian laws and regulations regarding Modern Slavery.
At The Edwards Design Studio, we stand united in our pledge to combat modern slavery and uphold the principles of human dignity, freedom, and ethical business practices.
